【もう桁を間違えない】英語の数字の読み方のコツ

でも英語で正しく数字を伝えられていますか？

商談で、相手に桁を間違えて伝えてしまったとか、、想像するだけで冷や汗が止まらなくなりますよね。。。

今回は正しく英語で数字を読むためのコツを学びます。

数字の読み方

英語の数字の読み方は日本語に比べて非常に規則的です。

まず3桁の数字の読み方からはじめます。

3桁の読み方

3桁の数字は百の位と下2桁を区切って読みます。

1：one　11：eleven　111：one hundred (and) eleven

百の位と十の位の間には and が入りますが、アメリカでは省略されることが多いです。

ただし、十の位が「0」の時は、and は省略しないのが一般的です。

例）101：one hundred and one

はじめはandを省略せずに練習してみましょう。

4桁以上の数字の読み方

4桁以上の数字も3桁の読み方の応用になります。

数字は下図で分かるように、3桁毎にコンマで区切られます。そして英語の場合、そこにそれぞれthousand、million、billion、trillionという単位が付きます。

すなわちいくら大きな数字になっても、先程の3桁の読み方とカンマに付く単位を組み合わせて読んでいけばいいのです。

1,111：one thousand, one hundred (and) eleven

11,111：eleven thousand, one hundred (and) eleven

111,111：one hundred (and) eleven thousand, one hundred (and) eleven

1,111,111：one million, one hundred eleven thousand, one hundred (and) eleven

11,111,111：eleven million, one hundred (and) eleven thousand, one hundred (and) eleven

111,111,111：one hundred (and) eleven million, one hundred (and) eleven thousand, one hundred (and) eleven

規則さえ分かってしまえば、どうってことないですよね。

応用問題

しかし「分かる」と「使える」では大きな差があります。

とっさに対応できるように自動化するには、量をこなす必要があります。
